Taken for a Ride - to ‘Hell’?
Effective Therapy with Former Members of Abusive Groups and Relationships
2 day Training Course for Therapists
12 hours CPD
Friday 11th and Saturday 12th May 2012 (Grindleford)
OR
Friday 7th and Saturday 8th September 2012 (London)
This training will explore the following:
Did you know there are over 800 ‘cults’ active in the UK at any one time and so you are likely to be in contact with someone who has been affected, including clients?
Did you know cults can be found in any area of society including psychotherapy, religion, spirituality and politics?
Have you ever heard of a therapist who has tried to control their client by telling them how to live, what to eat, what to wear and how to act?
Have you ever heard of a spiritual leader or group that has invited people to take part in what seems to be a bona fide yoga, meditation or Bible reading group (for example) that has resulted in their losing contact with family and lifelong friends, feeling trapped in the group and losing years of their life?
Did you know that those who leave cults often feel a deep sense of loss, guilt, devastation, disorientation and rage at the years lost to serving another’s agenda?
Did you know that therapy with such clients requires particular knowledge and understanding?
This course will cover
• how we can all be influenced and ‘taken for a ride’
• the similarities and differences between bullying, domestic abuse, cult, one-on-one cult and spiritual abuse
• the effects of ‘brainwashing’, thought reform and cult pseudo-personality
• how to help clients recover
• how to recognise and work effectively with these issues
• consultancy on specific cases

Feedback from previous training:
I feel that my grasp of the implications of certain aspects dealt with in the course is now much greater than before. I really enjoyed the event and feel I learnt much that will be invaluable in the future. Thank you for your presentation and warm welcome.
The training will help me be more aware of clients who have suffered some sort of cultic abuse who may possibly be unaware themselves.
The venue was wonderful, yummy food, beautiful views and fantastic training and support!
Brilliant to be finally making a coherent step forward.
Gillie your work is so comprehensive. It is a wonderful opportunity for me to be a participant in this seminar and meet other most interesting persons! Thank you!
The best aspects of the event were: the excellent range of models, your personal and professional experience, contributions from others and a safe environment.
